During summer is very usual to get a higher electricity bill, the good news is that you can do something to lower or maintain a stable electric bill payment.

We want to share with you, these 5 ideas about how to save money on your electric bil in the summertime.

1 – Changing light bulbs

To save electricity and money you have to replace the light bulbs with energy-saving light bulbs. Switching to LED lighting saves you about $225 in energy costs per year (1). And all you had to do was buy a different bulb.

Even better, the smart light bulbs can be controlled from the phone, so you can get a lower electric bill, an energy-efficient home, and also a smarter home.

2- Having a programmable and smart thermostat

A good idea about how to lower your electric bill is by turning your thermostat back 7°-10°F for 8 hours a day from its typical setting. This can save as much as 10 percent a year on cooling. (2)

Also, you can save money on your heating and cooling bills by simply resetting your thermostat when you are asleep or away from home.

Using a programmable thermostat, you can adjust the times you turn on the heating or air-conditioning according to a pre-set schedule.

3 – Maintaining  full your freezer

When you open the freezer door, warm air enters and needs to be cooled, which consumes the majority of the energy used by the freezer. When your freezer is full, the objects inside help to cool down the air. So, to save money on the electric bill you should keep the freezer full.

An easy tip is to use bags filled with water. There will be more space filled and the ice will keep your food cold in case there is a power outage.

4 – Unpluging equipment when not in use

You can waste $165 by doing nothing. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), this is the average amount the electronics, appliances, and other equipment consumes when are not in use but connected. The solution? Disconnect them when not in use.

For Earth is worst. Plugged but inactive devices cost about $19 billion a year and 50 large (500-megawatt) power plants’ worth of electricity. These are a lot of resources exploited in vain.

5- Purchasing solar panels for your home

Solar is probably the best action to eliminate your electric bill, the annual increments of it and electric costs for good, plus adding value to your property and using clean renewable energy (the right action for the environment, you children and next generations)

The best part is because you already pay an electric bill, solar cost you $0 dollars, basically you use less monthly money to pay towards your solar panels than to you utility company and one day there are no more solar payments so you keep producing electricity!
