Diego Garcia

Probably you are looking for solar companies in Florida and before we make the list, we would like to explain that there are basically two groups of companies: National solar companies in Florida and Local solar companies in Florida. What is the difference?

We got the opportunity to highlight some of the differences and let us clarify that this are generic observations and not absolute trues of each of the companies listed here. There are some other companies not included in the list but based on our 8+ years of experience if you are considering the companies listed you will find differences that can provide you peace of mind. Remember the value of one or other characteristic may be more relevant to you depending on your own personal preferences and attributes that are more important to you.

Now we also share some of the advantages and disadvantages, so we hope this information help you selecting the right solar company for your solar installation and moving forward with you own checklist

National Solar companies in Florida

Are companies that have presence in multiple states including Florida, they have larger presence, more volume and usually more territory covered.

In this group of companies, we highlight top national solar companies in Florida and industry players like Powur PBC, Sunrun, Sunpower, Blue Raven, Palmetto and Tesla.

Advantages:

  • They have usually more financial muscle that translate into more buying power in the equipment purchase negotiation with the solar panels manufacture, this means higher technology (more watts per module) at a lower cost.
  • Larger liability policies backing up the entire operation so if there are issues the company have more structure to respond and cover any undesired situation with your installation.
  • They are normally in business for the long run. When national companies are going out of business it will take longer to be liquidated, and in this process, they normally have to honor pending responsibilities to third parties and clients before stakeholders. This means you will be on a better chance to have back up if your system needs attention down in 10 or 15 years.

Disadvantages:

  • They must attend to a larger group of individuals for customer service that can delay the ability to provide a good experience to the customer service, little attention to your specific situation or custom needed solution. They have procedures and standards that will guarantee most issues to be solved but little “case by case” attention.
  • They are not very close to your home, this means a service call be schedule within weeks or even months, making the service slow, reschedule or delay.
  • They normally subcontract jobs or have district managers or other contractors to perform a task or a job, it is always someone else responsibility, and you can be on the phone jumping from one department to another until reach the right person.

Local solar companies in Florida

Are companies that have presence at the local level, a city a county or sometimes even all state of Florida. They are normally family owned and operated or they are form because of a partnership. In this group of companies, we highlight top local solar companies in Florida like: Sunlight Solar, Urban Solar, Ensolar, Maximo Solar, Solar Ray, Goldin Solar, PES Solar, 3 Guys Solar, Solar Mission and Clever Energy.

Advantages:

  • They have less clients that allows the company to have a closer relationship with the HO with the ability of put attention to details and accommodate to better fit the customer needs.
  • They are closer to your home, this means a service call be schedule within days or even in a few hours, making the service fast and on time.
  • They normally don’t subcontract jobs or other contractors to perform a task or a job, it is really the people who work inside the company that do the job.

Disadvantages:

  • They have usually les financial muscle that transfers into less buying power in the equipment purchase negotiation with the solar panels manufacture, this means lower watts per panel and higher pricing per watt.
  • Smaller liability policies back up the entire operation. This could represent a risk if the company is underperforming on quality installations since there is only one cover liability policy (typically smaller) backing up local installations
  • Local companies can be liquidated in 5 to 10 years. Entrepreneurships is difficult and may solar installers go out of business because of cash flow issues, lawsuits, high operational cost or just lack of clients. They are on average 25 solar companies created per day and only 1 or 2 will survive +10 years. When local companies are going out of business it will take shorter to be liquidated, and in this process, they normally don’t have to honor pending responsibilities. This means you will be on a worst chance to have back up if your system needs attention down in 10 or 15 years.

We also would like to say that in general all this companies are in acceptable standards and that for the most part in general you are in good hands. Don’t forget to have at least 3 different estimates, compare your quotes, and ask good questions to better understand the value proposition of your solar representative.
